Ahead of the 2023 general election, the Owa-Ale of Ikare-Akoko, Oba. Adeleke Adefemi Adegbite-Adedoyin II, has warned politicians against infighting and inflammatory comments capable of causing chaos in the State.
The Monarch also cautioned political candidates and their ardent supporters not to view contests for elective offices as a do-or-die affair.
Owa-Ale handed down the warning during the 2022 Okemeji Tako Tabo festival held at his Palace in Ikare-Akoko, Akoko North East Local Government Area of the State.
The first class Monarch who recalled on series of past elections, admitted that many lives had been lost due to some political gladiators who vowed to get to power at all cost.
He advised that elections should not be seen as a battle field, adding that the long arm of the law is bond to catch any politicians hobnobbing with hoodlums to incite violence during electioneering periods.
“We cannot afford to lose lives again, we must understand the incontrovertible fact that election is not a do-or-die affair, candidates and their supporters must realize the need for peaceful poll”
“Politicians must not engage in inflammatory comment during the course of their campaigns, I will advice them to read the new electoral act in order to know the punishment tied to it”
“However, anybody caught planning to cause mayhem will be severely dealt with, Ondo State is a place of pride, we won't tolerate any abysmal trend capable of causing chaos in our State”
