Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP, Oyo State Council has called on Nigerians to have hope of a better future for the country, despite the multifarious challenges it currently faces.
The Union made the appeal in its goodwill message issued to members and Nigerians by chairman, Comrade Isiaka Abolade and Executive Secretary, Comrade Olusegun Abatan on the occasion of the Nation’s 62nd Independence anniversary.
The Union said that the nation held abundant promises for the citizens, adding that Nigeria has what it takes to overcome today’s threats and trials.
Oyo NUP encouraged leaders and the led to re-dedicate themselves virtues of equity, justice, tolerance and join hands to give their best for the good of the country.
Comrades Abolade and Abatan however, described Independence Day as a moment of freedom that gives an opportunity for reflection on the country’s progress, celebrate its humble attainments and ponder over those dreams yet unfulfilled.
In the statement, “the union joins all Nigerians to celebrate the 62nd Independence Anniversary of our great nation, Nigeria. As we mark this day of freedom, it affords us the opportunity to appraise on our progress, celebrate the nation`s humble attainments and ruminate over those dreams that are yet to be fulfilled.
We may have hiccups along the way and challenging times that might be stretching our resolve and determination to forge ahead. But we should not relent nor succumb to fear, discouraging trials and threats of today.
According to Oyo NUP, the journey of nationhood is a marathon, which requires patience, resilience, tolerance and determination. The Union stated that the uncertainties of this time could not be compared to the limitless promises in the country.
Oyo NUP added that the approach of the general elections offers the nation a new opportunity to renew her drive towards attaining greater heights and secure our shared dreams and common vision.
The Union however appreciates Oyo State governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde and his administration for taking good care of workers and pensioners in the state as well as other giant strides he has taken to develop the state better than he met it.
Comrades Abolade and Abatan also reiterated the commitment of the Union to the welfare of its members and more laudable achievements by the current executive.
