No fewer than 10 outlets were sealed by the Ondo State Internal Revenue Service (ODIRS), for failure to fulfill tax liabilities accruing to over five million Naira.
The sealed outlets —Romanco Plaza, Tolani Produce Seller, Toppy Deee Motors, a law firm located at Ikare-Akoko, in Akoko North East Local Government Area of the State, defaulted in payment of tax.
Acting on court order, Fevjerh Enterprise in Arigidi, Akoko North West Local Government, among others were also sealed.
Speaking during the enforcement exercise, an Assistant Director of Legal Service, Gregory Afuwape, said the Agency acted on court order to seal the business outlets for outright refusal to pay tax.
Afuwape who noted that payment of tax helps the government to carry out its core responsibilities to the citizenry, urged business owners to pay up their taxes in order avoid embarrassment which amounts to Shutting down buildings.
He said, “We are here to carry out enforcement on defaulters of tax, this man Romanco is a trader in Ikare here, we have served him all statutory notices required by law”
“Now we have gone to court and we have a judgment in favor of Ondo State Government, we are backed up by law to seal up this place. It will serve as deterrent to others”
“We want to encourage everybody transacting in Ondo State to pay their tax”
However, Afuwape said whenever the defaulters deemed it fit to pay up their taxes, their business outlets will be unsealed by ODIRS.
