For violating traffic law, no fewer than 31 vehicles were impounded yesterday in Akure, by the Ondo State Internal Revenue Service (ODIRS).
The regular exercise which took place at various locations in the State capital to include — Arakale, Oke-aro, Oba Adesida road and others, was in tandem with security agencies.
Mr. Olajide Olugbenga, the State Licensing Officer, who spoke to Journalists on the development, noted that the exercise was chiefly carried out to enforce full compliance with traffic law.
Olajide said, “The traffic law is so clear that any vehicle that would ply government road must have been registered and has valid documents.
"Today we see some vehicles using illegal numbers, like some commercial vehicles which use local government number and we see some unregistered vehicles on the road.
"Also, we have so many old number plates on the road and vehicles with expired documents, while some do not have drivers licence.
Olugbenga added that the exercise was in line with the state government concern about the safety of lives and property on the road.
"Most of the people carrying out criminal acts can be tracked if our people have valid documents and inexperienced drivers would also not be on the road.
He, however, appealed to road users in the state to adhere to the traffic laws, saying, We want people that are using illegal plate number should collect the right number plate and those with expired documents should come for valid documents.
Also speaking, Officer in charge of the enforcement at the VIO, Adeniyi Adenegan said the exercise had been continuous, stating that it was unlawful for vehicle owners to drive without licences and vehicle particulars.
Veracity observed that the officers checked vehicle particulars, drivers licence and vehicle number plates during the exercise.
