The Directorate of Health Services of Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), has organized an Eight (8) weeks free medical screening aimed ay improving health status of its members of staff.
The exercise which kicked off on Monday, 20th March, 2023 aimed at assisting the staff members to know their health status with a view to giving recommendation for possible treatment of disease(s) if present.
In a brief chat with Esquire FUOYE crew, the Director, Health Services, Dr. Musbau Olawale said the aim of the exercise was to enable members of staff know their health status and recommend possible treatment as the case may be.
He said: "It is widely accepted that prevention is better than cure. What we aim to achieve with this exercise is to prevent and/or detect early diseases in the body system of our staff.
"All the staff are meant to do it but it is not mandatory that’s why every member of staff are made to sign a consent form before they are screened.”
He went on: “People have been coming to participate in the exercise. It has been very encouraging and the turn out has been impressive so far.
"We have attended to more than 100 members of staff today alone.”
While encouraging members of to key into the exercise, Dr. Olawale
said “we can actually be doing this annually. I suggested to the management that we should make it an annual event and the Vice- Chancellor, Professor Sunday Abayomi Fasina graciously accepted.
“We are protecting the male and female staff. You can see that we do prostrate and breast cancer test for male and female staff respectively and the results are treated in a confidential way."
He also used the opportunity to advise staff members to be health-conscious as early detection of any sickness and disease and prompt treatment would save a lot of lives.
However, a series of were carried out.
They were blood sugar, Blood and eye pressure test, Electro Cardio-Graphic (ECG) among many others.
