A 25-year-old driver, Stephen Olayode, was on Wednesday arraigned in a Grade ‘A’ Customary Court, Ibadan, over an alleged manslaughter offence.
Olayode, whose address was not provided, was charged with reckless driving leading to a man’s death.
He, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Mr Philip Amusan, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence on May 26 at about 11.30 p.m. at Ojoo-Sango Road, Ibadan.
Amusan alleged that the defendant dangerously drove a Nexus saloon car without due regard to other road users.
The reckless driving, the prosecutor alleged, caused an accident, injuring one Semiu Adelakun, damaging a motorcycle and causing the death of one Tiamiyu Musiliu.
He said the offences contravened Sections 4(1) and 25(1) Road Transport Administration (RTA) Laws of Oyo State.
The President of the court, Mrs Yusuf Sukurat, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million and two sureties in like sum.
Sukurat held that one of the sureties must be a blood relation to the defendant, a Level 15 officer and must be able to provide evidence of tax clearance of two years.
She, thereafter, adjourned the case for hearing, come July 10. (NAN)
