A major scandal has rocked Kano’s legal community as an individual falsely presenting himself as a lawyer for nearly two decades has been uncovered. The imposter, identified as Bako Yunusa Gambo, reportedly manipulated the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) portal to hide his true identity.
Allegedly, he substituted his own name for that of a legitimate lawyer, Bako Haruna Gambo, raising concerns about fraudulent activities within the legal system.
Records confirm that the real Bako Haruna Gambo was called to the bar in 2007, as noted in the yearbook. However, Bako Yunusa Gambo, who has never been officially recognized as a lawyer, went on to set up a law firm, B.Y. Gambo & Co., in clear violation of professional ethics.
Further investigations reveal that Bako Yunusa Gambo even used the real Gambo’s credentials to secure admission into Ahmadu Bello University, despite lacking the necessary qualifications. Meanwhile, the genuine Bako Haruna Gambo holds a degree in Criminology from Bayero University, Kano.
This act of impersonation threatens the credibility of the legal profession, prompting calls for a comprehensive investigation by the NBA. The public demands transparency: Where is the real Bako Haruna Gambo, and how did this imposter operate undetected for so long? Who has been paying the NBA practicing fees under Bako Haruna Gambo's name, and has the impostor ever contributed to these fees?
Justice must be served, and the NBA's next steps will be crucial in restoring public confidence.
