The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has called on Special Marshals to embrace digital technology to improve their contributions towards ensuring safer roads across Nigeria.
The FRSC Corps Marshal, Mr. Shehu Mohammed, made this call at the 2024 Special Marshal’s Zonal Conference, held on Wednesday in Akure. The theme of the event was “Leveraging Technology For Improved Traffic Management And Enforcement: The FRSC’s Digitalised Approach.”
Represented by Mrs. Rosemary Alo, Oyo FRSC Sector Commander, Mohammed highlighted the recent launch of the FRSC mobile application, designed to provide real-time information and services to both road users and officers.
He emphasized that adopting digital technology would significantly boost the productivity and service delivery of the corps.
“Digital transformation is vital as the FRSC aims to manage traffic more efficiently and enforce traffic laws more effectively,” Mohammed stated.
He further stressed that the future of road safety in Nigeria is digital, with the FRSC leading the charge in this transformation.
“With your dedication and support, we will continue to make major strides in improving traffic management and enforcement nationwide," he added, urging Special Marshals to utilise these digital tools for greater efficiency and impact.
In a goodwill message, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, represented by his Special Adviser on Transport, Mr. Olugbenga Omole, praised the FRSC for adopting technology to improve road safety.
He described the digital approach as a major step towards creating safer roads in the state and across the country.
“If FRSC continues to implement a digitalised approach to traffic management and enforcement, it will streamline operations, enhance capabilities, and ultimately save lives," Governor Aiyedatiwa remarked.
Mr. Muyiwa Oyediji, Special Marshal Zonal Coordinator for Osun, Ondo, and Oyo States, noted that the adoption of digital technology would ensure better public enlightenment, automatic reporting of operational data, and more coordinated efforts to reduce road accidents and fatalities.
The event's highlight was the decoration of Bishop Felix Adejumo, General Overseer of Agape Church, as an Honorary Special Marshal. Dignitaries present included the Commissioner of Police for Ondo State, Mr. Abayomi Oladipo, and representatives from customs, correctional services, NSCDC, and immigration.
