The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Idanre Local Government suffered a significant blow on Thursday, October 17, 2024, as several key figures, along with over 2,000 supporters, officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Leading the defection was Hon. Aderemi Oyewole, popularly known as Gulder, a former PDP House of Assembly candidate in Idanre. He was joined by other notable PDP figures, including Hon. Oluyemi Akinde, Smart Olonimoyo, Lady T, Kanada Akinlalu, Olympas, Ladi, Omosagba, and Saliu. Also among the defectors were the Youth Leaders, Women Leaders, Artisan Leaders, and Market Women Leaders from the PDP in Idanre.
During the decamping event, the APC Chairman for Ondo State, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, welcomed the new members to the party. He assured them that their contributions would be valued and rewarded, stating that their growth within the APC would be boundless. Adetimehin also highlighted the achievements of the APC-led government in Idanre over the past seven and a half years. He particularly noted the completion of an alternative route to Idanre and other road projects as key accomplishments of the APC administration.
Hon. Aderemi Oyewole, the leader of the defectors, explained that their decision to join the APC was driven by the exemplary leadership and performance of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa. He emphasized that the defectors were committed to adding value to the party and working diligently to ensure the governor's victory in the upcoming November 16, 2024, governorship election. Gulder reassured APC members that the defectors did not intend to disrupt or intimidate the existing party members.
Prominent APC members present at the event included Dr. Mrs. Seun Bosede Osamaye, Special Adviser to Governor Aiyedatiwa on Women Affairs; Hon. Prince Kayode Aroloye, Idanre LCDA Central Chairman; Hon. Smart Omotadowa, Chairman of Idanre Local Government; Hon. Afolabi Adesoji, former Idanre Local Government Chairman; Hon. Henry Olatuja, Special Assistant to the Governor; and Hon. Makinsun Sunday, Special Assistant to the Governor.
Other attendees included Pastor Olutoyese, a senior APC elder in Idanre; Hon. Isaac Eniola (Young Boss), Special Assistant to the Governor; Arch. Idowu Akinseye; Engr. Osedele Folarin, Idanre APC Leader; Hon. Pastor Marcus Adeuti, Special Assistant to the Governor; Hon. Victor Akinduko, Idanre APC Leader; Hon. Adeyefa, LCDA Secretary; Mrs. Utiola Richard, Ologbosere Women Leader; and Hon. Oludele, former Idanre Local Government Secretary.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Hon. Tajudeen Adefisoye, popularly known as Small Alhaji, who urged unity among the APC members in Idanre. He also encouraged them to work tirelessly to secure a decisive victory for Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in the forthcoming election.
