Senator Ishaku Abbo (SIA) has unveiled a detailed strategy to cut Nigeria’s petrol price from over N1,000 per liter to N480 by February 2025, aiming to bring relief to Nigerians struggling with the high cost of living. His proposal also outlines a further reduction to N250 per liter by February 2026.
This initiative comes in response to recent challenges, including a national grid collapse that left much of the North in darkness for nearly two weeks. Senator Abbo criticized successive administrations in Adamawa for not working with the federal government to upgrade the Kiri Dam in Shelleng LGA into a 35MW power generation facility, which could supply electricity directly to Adamawa and surrounding areas under an embedded generation model.
“People are suffering; they’re struggling to feed their families, and poverty is fueling crime, especially among young people,” Abbo stated. “It’s heartbreaking to witness the desperation in our communities.”
To address these pressing issues, Senator Abbo has offered to share his fuel price reduction strategy with President Tinubu. He believes his plan could curb inflation and ease the financial burden on Nigerians. His goal is to achieve a price reduction to N480 per liter by February 2025 and further to N250 per liter by February 2026.
Senator Abbo, known for his outspoken nature, emphasized that this proposal is motivated purely by a desire to address Nigeria’s economic challenges and alleviate the suffering of citizens. He acknowledges that implementation will be crucial in realizing these goals.
Should Abbo’s plan be successfully implemented, it could significantly ease the economic strain on Nigerians and potentially earn President Tinubu recognition as the leader who tackled Nigeria’s long-standing energy crisis.
