Dr. Bartholomew Saanu Adeleke, a distinguished microbiologist from Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, Nigeria, has been named among the top 2% of scientists worldwide for 2024, according to a ranking published by Elsevier and Stanford University.
Following this prestigious recognition, Dr. Adeleke expressed his determination to further his impactful research and contribute significantly to global scientific knowledge.
In a statement after receiving the accolade, Dr. Adeleke shared that the honor would drive him to continue producing pioneering research, mentoring future scientists, and collaborating with leading researchers globally.
He emphasized his commitment to publishing in high-impact, open-access journals to ensure widespread dissemination of his work, particularly in microbial biotechnology and sustainable agricultural practices.
Dr. Adeleke's achievement places him at an impressive rank of 192,742 globally among the top 2% of scientists and 3,452 in the specific field of Plant Biology and Botany. Notably, he holds the position of the top-ranked scientist at OAUSTECH, according to the AD Scientific Index for both 2023 and 2024.
This milestone marks the first time an academic from OAUSTECH has received such global recognition.

The accolade, facilitated by Elsevier and Stanford University, identifies the world’s most influential scientists based on a thorough analysis of scientific publications and citation metrics, highlighting those who have made substantial contributions to global scientific progress.
Dr. Adeleke’s academic journey is impressive. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Microbiology with Second Class Honors (Upper Division) from Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, in 2011, followed by a Master’s degree with Distinction in Food Microbiology from the Federal University of Technology, Akure, in 2017.
He completed his Ph.D. in Biology/Microbiology from North-West University, South Africa, in 2022, specializing in microbiology, microbial biotechnology, soil-plant-microbe interactions, food security, sustainable agriculture, and next-generation sequencing.
Acknowledging the recognition, OAUSTECH’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Temi Ologunorisa, congratulated Dr. Adeleke for his remarkable achievement.
In response, Dr. Adeleke dedicated the award to God, his mentors, collaborators, and particularly to his late father, Pa. Julius Adeleke Ajayi, and his mother, Madam Veronica Ifefaola Ajayi, for their unwavering support and upbringing.
