Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has reiterated his administration’s dedication to ensuring the welfare, safety, and empowerment of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members posted to the state.
Speaking through the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Mrs. Tolu Adeyemi, at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream II corps members, the governor praised the NYSC scheme for its vital role in promoting national unity and cultural integration. He urged the corps members to embrace the scheme’s values and actively participate in the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, describing it as a critical tool for shaping their future.
“The future belongs to the empowered. SAED is a tool to shape that future. Engage it. Own it. Use it,” he said.
Governor Aiyedatiwa also revealed plans to improve infrastructure at the Ikare-Akoko Orientation Camp, promising that his administration will continue to create a secure and conducive environment for the programme’s success in Ondo State.
Delivering a welcome address on behalf of the NYSC State Governing Board, the Director of Youth Development at the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Mrs. Catherine Okukpe, described the new corps members as part of a proud tradition of national service. She encouraged them to carry the torch of hope and serve with courage, humility, and honour.
She further assured them of the state's readiness to ensure their safety and well-being, urging them to be exemplary ambassadors while engaging with the cultural heritage of their host communities. She also praised the NYSC Ondo State Secretariat, led by State Coordinator Mrs. Kuburat Omowumi Bakare, for maintaining a high standard of operations.
In her remarks, Mrs. Bakare called on the state government to provide additional infrastructure, particularly more hostel accommodations, and encouraged employers to support corps members posted to their organizations.
She also outlined the orientation course activities, which include leadership training, civic responsibilities, SAED, and paramilitary drills. She emphasized the importance of discipline and active participation, assuring the corps members of a well-rounded blend of work and leisure throughout their orientation.
The ceremony drew attendance from top government officials, traditional rulers, security personnel, and community leaders, all of whom pledged their support for the NYSC scheme and the success of the orientation exercise in the state.
With the orientation course now underway, the newly inducted corps members are set to begin a journey of national service, personal development, and contribution to societal growth.
