Prof. Oyetakin to deliver AAUA’s 42nd inaugural lecture on education funding

Professor Akinrotimi Iyiomo Oyetakin, a distinguished expert in Educational Management, will deliver the 42nd Inaugural Lecture at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA).

In a statement signed by Professor Adebisi Daramola, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) and Chairman of the Ceremonies Committee, the lecture is scheduled to hold on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at the University’s Multipurpose Hall. The programme will begin at 2:00 p.m., with attendees expected to be seated by 1:30 p.m. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olugbenga Ige, will preside over the occasion as Chairman.

The lecture, titled “Cost Explosion and Expenditure Implosion in Tertiary Education: Equilibrium Heresies in Motion,” will examine the complex financial landscape of higher education, offering valuable perspectives on the challenges and prospects within the sector in Nigeria and globally.

Professor Oyetakin commenced his academic pursuit with a National Certificate in Education from Lagos State College of Education, Oto-Ijanikin, in 1990. He later obtained a B.Sc. (Ed.) in Economics Education from Lagos State University in 1998, before earning both M.Ed. and Ph.D. degrees in Educational Management from the same institution in 2000 and 2009, respectively.

He joined Adekunle Ajasin University in 2010 as a Lecturer II in the Department of Educational Management and steadily climbed the academic ladder, attaining the rank of Professor in 2022.

Over the years, Professor Oyetakin has taken on numerous academic and leadership responsibilities. He has served three terms as Head of Department, acted as Secretary of the Faculty Conference and Seminar Committee, and coordinated various academic programmes and journals. He has also been a member of several institutional committees, including the AAUA Webometric Committee, Postgraduate Seminar Committee, and the Faculty of Education Journal Committee. His other roles include Centre Coordinator of the University’s Sandwich Degree Programme and Acting Director of the Institute of Education.

A prolific scholar and dedicated educator, Professor Oyetakin has authored, edited, and co-authored more than 59 scholarly publications, contributing to reputable journals worldwide. He is frequently invited to speak at conferences and has represented the university at academic gatherings across Nigeria and internationally, including countries like Italy, Lebanon, Tanzania, and Kenya.

His professional affiliations reflect his active involvement in the academic community. He is a member of the Nigerian Association for Educational Administration and Planning, the Commonwealth Council for Educational Administration and Management, and the Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria. He is also a Fellow of the International Institute of Logistics and Administration, and a Life Member of the UK-based Teaching and Education Research Association (TERA). In addition, he serves on editorial boards of several respected academic journals.

The upcoming lecture is expected to draw academics, policymakers, students, and the general public for what promises to be a thought-provoking discourse on the pressing financial issues facing tertiary education today.
