Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has called on Corps Members deployed to the state to contribute actively to building a stronger, united, peaceful, and democratic Nigeria, reminding them that the country remains their only homeland.
Speaking through the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Wasilat Adegoke, during the closing ceremony of the 2025 Batch A Stream II orientation course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Iseyin, the governor emphasized the importance of staying aligned with the original goals of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) – national unity and integration.
Congratulating the Corps Members on completing their three-week orientation programme, Makinde expressed confidence in their readiness to face the challenges ahead.
He urged them to reflect on the lessons and experiences gained during the camp and put them into practice in their host communities throughout the service year and beyond.
“I am convinced that the training you have received will be of great benefit to you on your life’s journey,” he said.
The governor assured the Corps Members of his administration’s continued commitment to their welfare and safety.
He encouraged them to identify and execute impactful projects in their host communities, highlighting that the people of Oyo State are peaceful, friendly, and accommodating.
“You have nothing to fear,” he said. “Oyo is a welcoming environment where you will find it comfortable to live and work.”
Governor Makinde also reminded them to remain law-abiding, dedicated, and hardworking.
He warned against involvement in truancy, cultism, drug abuse, cybercrime, and other social vices, urging them instead to focus on meaningful and productive engagements.
In his remarks, the NYSC Oyo State Coordinator, Mr. Kayode Ola Peters, noted that the orientation programme has prepared the Corps Members for the vital roles they are expected to play in national development.
He stressed the importance of value re-orientation and the need to address realities such as post-service unemployment.
He also called on employers of Corps Members to prioritize their welfare, offer guidance when necessary, and provide commendation when deserved, saying such gestures would foster a positive work relationship and inspire Corps Members to give their best during the service year.
