The Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Prof. Olugbenga Ige, has described the appointment of his predecessor, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, as Ondo State’s Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology as a commendable and timely decision.
Prof. Ige gave the commendation on Thursday, July 31, 2025, when he led members of the university’s management team on a courtesy visit to the new commissioner at his office in Akure.
The VC said, “Your appointment did not come to us as a surprise. It is a natural recognition of your stellar record of leadership, diligence, and commitment to public service. Having served meritoriously as a Rector and later as a Vice Chancellor, your track record speaks volumes. Indeed, your appointment is a round peg in a round hole.”
He also praised the Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for what he termed a forward-thinking and strategic choice. Prof. Ige expressed confidence that the education sector in the state would experience significant progress under Prof. Ajibefun’s leadership.
He added, “We trust that you will bring your vast experience in educational leadership to bear on the task ahead, and we pray for strength, wisdom, and the support you need to take education in the state to greater heights.”
In his remarks, Prof. Ajibefun thanked the AAUA delegation for the visit and appreciated the achievements recorded under Prof. Ige’s leadership. He commended the management for maintaining the university’s legacy of excellence and uninterrupted academic activities.
He assured the delegation of the government’s commitment to revitalising the education sector in Ondo State. “Governor Aiyedatiwa is passionate about transforming education across all levels. We will work collaboratively to address the sector’s challenges, from the basic to the tertiary levels. With synergy and dedication, we will reposition education to meet global standards,” he said.
