BREAKING: WAEC admits marking errors in 2025 scripts

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has acknowledged discrepancies in the marking of serialised objective questions in the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The examination body made the revelation during a media briefing held on Friday.

This confirmation comes in the wake of growing public outrage that followed the abrupt shutdown of WAEC’s result-checking portal on Wednesday. The council had attributed the disruption to “technical issues.”

The temporary suspension of the portal was announced via WAEC’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle, @waecnigeria, prompting a wave of criticism from candidates and parents alike. Many expressed frustration over the poor performance, especially in English Language, as reflected in the recently released results.

More details are expected to follow.
