Former Ondo State Deputy Governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Chief Ajayi Alfred Agboola, has withdrawn his appeal before the Supreme Court against the outcome of the last governorship election in the state.
In a letter dated September 16 and addressed to the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Agboola said the decision came after consultations with stakeholders.
“As the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, I have engaged in thoughtful discussions with my family, party members, associates, and legal advisors. After careful deliberation, we have reached a consensus that the appeal should be withdraw and I’m by this letter so do,” he wrote.
He explained that his choice was driven by a commitment to peace, stability and good governance, noting that politics should not override the collective interest of the people.
“Having served as the former Deputy Governor and as a representative of my constituents at the national level, my foremost commitment is to the principles of good governance and the promotion of peaceful coexistence in Ondo State and across Nigeria,” he added.
Agboola also congratulated Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, pledging his support for the administration’s vision for the state.
“In this spirit, I extend my heartfelt wishes to His Excellency Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa as he leads our state, and I remain dedicated to contributing positively to the State and National development,” he said.
He further called on residents and political actors to prioritise peace and unity in the interest of Ondo State’s progress.
