Detectives deployed to late Ondo guber candidate’s Lagos home, investigation launched [Video]

Detectives from the Lagos State Police Command have begun a forensic investigation into the death of former Ondo State governorship candidate under the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Bamidele Akingboye.

A team from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, was on Saturday deployed to his Victoria Garden City (VGC), Ajah residence, according to a video on Channels TV.

The premises were cordoned off as homicide operatives gathered physical evidence and biological samples.

Family members and domestic staff were also questioned on their last moments with the late businessman, fondly called OBA.

His son, Samuel Akingboye, told Channels Television that the family wanted answers on the cause of death.

“I saw him the day before, so it’s very, very shocking just to see this happen. That’s why I opened the case to know how he died, because I wasn’t getting any explanation,” he said.

His daughter, Michaella, urged the public to dismiss speculations, insisting the family was confident in the police.

“I believe that the police is currently carrying out an investigation, which I believe they’ll carry out diligently. The truth will surely come to light. The whole family stands behind the police,” she said.

Police Commissioner, Olorundare Jimoh, assured that the command would leave no stone unturned.

“We are not going to leave any stone unturned to ensure that we get to the roots of the cause of his death. And where there’s any reasonable suspicion that some people are involved, we ensure that such figures are apprehended,” he said.

Confirming the probe on Sunday, the command wrote on its X handle: “CP Olohundare Jimoh orders forensic probe into death of Mr. Bamidele Akingboye.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police, SCID, to discreetly investigate the death of Mr. Bamidele Akingboye.”
