Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State, is set to host its 49th Inaugural Lecture on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, with Professor Adetunbi Richard Ogunleye of the Department of Religion and African Culture billed as the guest lecturer.
According to a statement signed by the Chairman of the University Ceremonies Committee and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor Adebisi Daramola, the lecture will take place at the institution’s Multipurpose Hall under the chairmanship of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Olugbenga Ige.
The lecture, titled “Resting in Peace? The Dilemma of the Living-Dead”, will commence at 2:00 p.m., with guests expected to be seated by 1:30 p.m.
Professor Ogunleye, who joined the services of AAUA in 2003 as a Graduate Assistant, has risen through the ranks to become a Professor in 2021. He began his academic pursuit with a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, in 1995, before earning his Master’s degree from Ekiti State University in 2004 and a PhD from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, in 2009.
Over his two decades of service at AAUA, he has held several key administrative and academic positions, including Head of Department, Sub-Dean of Arts, and member of strategic committees. He is also a prolific scholar with seven authored or co-authored books and 32 journal articles, in addition to presenting papers at over 15 conferences across Africa.
Professor Ogunleye’s contributions to scholarship have earned him multiple awards, including the Meritorious Award for Best Lecturer of the Year (2022/2023) and the NARACS Award of Excellence (2016). He has also benefitted from prestigious sponsorships such as the TETFund and TOFAC fellowships.
An active member of professional associations such as NASRED, NASR, and NAPSASS, he continues to play a pivotal role in advancing the study of religion and culture in Nigeria.
The forthcoming lecture is expected to provide profound insights into African cultural practices, particularly their relevance and implications in modern society.
