The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted approval to the Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, Ondo State, to commence three new undergraduate programmes and higher degrees in two departments.
The development was contained in a press statement issued by the University’s Directorate of Information, Protocol and Public Relations on October 28, 2025.
It stated that the approval followed a letter dated October 23, 2025, signed by the NUC’s Acting Director of Academic Planning, Alhaji Abubakar M. Girei, on behalf of the Executive Secretary, Prof. Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu.
The newly approved undergraduate programmes include B.Sc. Cyber Security, B.Sc. Marine Science, and B.Sc. Meteorology, while the postgraduate degrees are Postgraduate Diploma, M.Eng, and Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, as well as Postgraduate Diploma, M.Eng, and Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
The Vice-Chancellor of OAUSTECH, Prof. Temi Ologunorisa, described the approval as a milestone achievement and “a testament to the University’s commitment to academic excellence and innovation.”
He noted that the new programmes would equip students with globally competitive skills in line with the institution’s mandate as a specialized science and technology university.
He expressed appreciation to the NUC for the confidence reposed in the institution, assuring that the university community would work collectively to ensure the success of the new programmes.
Also speaking, the University’s Director of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance, Dr. Cecilia Oluwamodupe, hailed the development as a major stride that would enhance OAUSTECH’s visibility and reputation.
She commended the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor and the Governing Council, led by Prof. Akinbo Adesomoju, for their roles in achieving the feat.
The introduction of Marine Science, in particular, is expected to boost career prospects for students in the coastal region and promote research that supports the state’s blue economy initiatives.
According to the statement, OAUSTECH will begin admitting students into the approved undergraduate programmes once they are listed on the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board’s Central Admissions Processing System (JAMB CAPS).
