…Stakeholders set to join APC in solidarity with Senator
A wave of political realignment appears imminent in Cross River North Senatorial District as prominent members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have indicated plans to defect en masse to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in solidarity with Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe.
The development follows Jarigbe’s recent defection to the APC and subsequent visits to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa and the Cross River State APC Chairman, Alphonsus Eba, to formalize his move and pledge cooperation with the party’s leadership in the state.
According to a statement issued Wednesday in Abuja by the senator’s media office and signed by his Special Adviser on Media, John Agom Agom, Jarigbe held a strategic meeting with top PDP figures from the northern senatorial zone to review the political situation and “chart a new direction.”
The statement read: “Discussions at the meeting held at the Rockview Hotel, Abuja on Tuesday, centered on aligning with what participants described as the progressive direction of the state under Governor Bassey Otu and the reform-driven agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
While addressing the gathering, Senator Jarigbe said his decision to join the ruling party was motivated by a desire to support President Tinubu’s efforts in rebuilding the nation.
“My people should be assured that defecting to the ruling party will not stop me from empowering the constituents and embarking on people-oriented projects to alleviate the sufferings of the zone.
“I must also assure all the stakeholders that our regular consultations will not stop. There are better days ahead,” Senator Jarigbe stated.
Also speaking at the meeting, Cross River PDP Chairman, Venatius Ikem, commended the senator’s “bold step” and pledged to brief the State Executive Committee for further deliberation on the party’s next course of action.
The statement added: “In a united front, the stakeholders pledged their support for Governor Otu’s administration and President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
They further disclosed their intention to officially join the APC alongside Senator Jarigbe after wider consultations, describing the anticipated mass defection as a strategic realignment to give Cross River North a stronger voice in both state and national politics.”
Among those in attendance were Hon. Godwin Offiono, representing Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency; former Secretary to the State Government, Chief Austin Edibe; Prof. Tom Ogar; Mike Aniah, Esq; Dr. DornKlamz Enamhe; Dr. Paul Ibiala; Hon. Peter Ignodor and other prominent political figures from the zone.
