The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ondo State has disclosed that a total of 259 road crashes were recorded between January and September 2025.
State Sector Commander, Dr. Samuel Ibitoye, revealed this on Monday during the 2025 Ember Months press briefing in Akure, themed “Responsibility For Your Safety: Stop Distracted Driving.”
He explained that the campaign was designed to raise awareness among motorists, enforce traffic laws, and discourage reckless driving during the period known for heavy vehicular movement and increased impatience on the road.
“In Ondo State, it is lamentable that the command recorded 259 RTC from January to September 2025, out of which 130 people were killed,” he said.
According to him, 71 of the crashes were fatal, 173 were serious, while 15 were minor, stressing that urgent actions must be taken to reverse the disturbing pattern.
Ibitoye reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to ensuring safer roads through collaboration with security agencies, consistent enlightenment, mobile court sittings for erring drivers, and 24-hour rescue services for crash victims.
He commended stakeholders and Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for their continued support of road safety initiatives, urging motorists to adhere strictly to traffic regulations and ensure that the 2025 Ember Months end without further loss of lives.
