The maiden edition of the Akoko KidsConcert 1.0 lived up to expectations on Sunday, drawing participants and spectators from across Akoko Land in a colourful showcase of creativity, culture, and youthful excellence.
The event featured 25 secondary schools out of more than 75 that registered, with each displaying captivating performances that thrilled the large audience in attendance.
The atmosphere was electric as students engaged in drama, dance, music, and other artistic presentations.
Speaking at the event, the Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer of KidsCon, Architect (Mrs.) Funmi Bankole, expressed appreciation to the Minister of Interior, Hon. (Dr.) Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for making the programme possible in Akoko for the first time.
“The Honourable Minister’s love for his people made this possible. He singlehandedly sponsored this event to put smiles on the faces of Akoko students. He has also graciously approved that the Akoko KidsConcert becomes an annual event,” she added.
Representing the Minister, Hon. Alhaji Dona conveyed Tunji-Ojo’s goodwill message, commending the quality of performances and urging students to remain worthy ambassadors of their schools. He also praised Architect Bankole and her team for their coordination and commitment to youth development.
After two rounds of competition, Greater Tomorrow International College emerged winner, followed by Victory College, Ikare, and Indomitable Genius Academy in second and third positions, respectively.
Dr. Charles Bankole presented prizes to the winners, while a student from Ipe High School, Ipe Akoko, won an American student bicycle through a raffle draw.
All participating students also received school bags, food, and refreshments, courtesy of the Minister of Interior.
The event was attended by education stakeholders, including representatives of the Tutor-General, Teachers’ Union, school principals, parents, and executives of the Adekunle Ajasin University Students’ Union led by Comrade Ologbon.
The success of the maiden edition, stakeholders said, has set a benchmark for future editions, firmly establishing the Akoko KidsConcert as an annual platform for celebrating the creativity and brilliance of young Akoko talents.
