The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been cautioned against recognising individuals falsely claiming to represent the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
The warning came in a letter dated November 12, 2025, from the legal team of the authentic NNPP leadership under National Chairman Dr Agbo Major.
The correspondence stated that impostors had written to INEC on October 31, 2025, requesting approval to conduct ward, local government, state, and national congresses.
The letter, allegedly signed by Dr Ajuji Ahmed and Dipo Olayoku, was described as unauthorised and without legal standing.
The solicitors emphasised that these individuals have no authority within the NNPP. They are acting in defiance of binding court rulings that affirm Dr Agbo Major’s leadership and the authority of the party’s Board of Trustees to organise congresses and the national convention.
Attempts by the impostors to challenge the authentic leadership were dismissed by the courts.
The Abia State High Court, in Suit No. HUZ/11/2024, and the FCT High Court, in Suit No. FCT/HC/Cv/5518/2024, confirmed Dr Agbo Major and his executive committee as the lawful leaders of the party.
The legal team warned that any recognition of the impostors by INEC could amount to contempt of court with serious consequences.
They advised the Commission to maintain the status quo and avoid steps that could prejudice ongoing judicial proceedings, including a pending judicial review before the FCT High Court (Suit No. M/14318/2025).
INEC was urged to reject any correspondence from the impostors.
The Commission was also advised not to deploy officials to monitor unauthorised congresses and to continue engaging only with Dr Agbo Major’s leadership.
The solicitors reminded INEC of its duty to uphold the rule of law and protect the integrity of the electoral process.
They warned that any deviation could undermine judicial authority and expose the Commission to legal liability.
