The Ondo State Government has revived the Justice of the Peace system after 17 years, marking a major step toward strengthening grassroots justice.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa led the inauguration of 130 new JPs at a ceremony attended by the Attorney General, Dr Kayode Ajulo, and the Chief Judge, Justice Olusegun Odusola.
The appointees were drawn from diverse fields to reinforce community-level conflict resolution and enhance the state’s justice architecture.
In his address, the governor described the event as a turning point in promoting order, security and the rule of law across communities.
He also announced the approval for the recruitment and training of 500 new Amotekun officers to boost the state’s security network.
The governor urged the new JPs to uphold integrity, fairness and decorum as they handle mediation, peacekeeping and other statutory responsibilities.
Speaking at the event, Dr Ajulo and Justice Odusola highlighted the historical role of JPs, their statutory duties and the expectations of the new appointees, while representatives of the group pledged to support the state’s push for strengthened justice and security at the grassroots
