The Ondo State Police Command says it has arrested a suspected kidnapper and rescued two victims following an early morning operation in Itaogbolu community.
The command said the incident occurred around 5:30am on Wednesday after a distress call reported the abduction of Mr. David and his wife from their farm hut along the Ondo–Ekiti border at Odeigede Camp.
Acting on the report, the Commissioner of Police deployed officers from the Iju–Itaogbolu Division and the State Anti-Kidnapping Squad, who teamed up with community youths to trail the suspects into the forest.
The police said the pressure forced the kidnappers to abandon the victims, adding that Mr. David, who sustained machete wounds, escaped with his wife before operatives recovered them.
According to the command, intelligence efforts later led to the arrest of one suspect inside a forest hut, where officers recovered a Samsung Note 10 phone, a sword and a broken bottle linked to the crime.
The Commissioner of Police praised the cooperation of residents and commended the operatives involved, while also acknowledging the support of the Inspector-General of Police.
The command urged residents to remain vigilant, warning criminal elements operating around border communities that they will be tracked down and prosecuted.
