Two students from the Department of Food Science and Technology (FST) of Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, have brought pride to the institution after emerging overall winners in the Professor Hafiz Abubakar Inter-University Quiz Competition.
The duo, Omotola Ibukun, a 500-level student, and Benjamin Boluwatife, a 400-level student, outperformed contestants from other Nigerian universities to clinch the top prize in the keenly contested national competition.
The contest formed part of the 49th Annual Conference and General Meeting of the Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology (NIFST), jointly organised with the Nigerian Association of Food Science and Technology Students (NAFSTS). The event took place at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, from October 19 to 24, 2025.
According to the organisers, the competition was designed to test the intellectual depth and scientific ingenuity of Food Science and Technology students nationwide, in line with the conference theme, “Empowering The Future: Gen Z Driven Sustainable Food Innovation and Futuristic Approach for Economic, Social, and National Advancement.”
Receiving the news of the victory, OAUSTECH Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Temi Ologunorisa, congratulated the students on their ingenuity, determination, brilliant performance, and hard work. He also commended the departmental and school leadership for a job well done, describing the feat as very heartwarming.
The Vice-Chancellor maintained that the achievement stands as a testament to the quality of teaching and mentorship provided by the department, saying it further reinforces the institution’s commitment to producing competent and innovative 21st-century graduates.
Also, Dean, School of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, Prof. Orimoloye Ipoola Faleyimu, lauded the students’ outstanding feat, describing it as a reflection of the department’s commitment to academic excellence and the unwavering dedication of its lecturers.
Speaking as well, FST Department Coordinator, Dr. Clement Ogidi, commended the students for their outstanding performance and demonstration of exceptional intellectual prowess, saying "The Department is very delighted that you applied the knowledge and skills you acquired in the classroom to excel and defeat your counterparts from other universities in Nigeria."
The event attracted dignitaries including OAUSTECH’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Research), Prof. Foluso Adetuyi, the founder and sponsor of the competition, Prof. Hafiz Abubakar, and NIFST President, Dr. Bola Osinowo, among others.
