The Olodeke of Ekan, Ikare-Akoko, Alhaji Abdulganiyu Imam Bello, has been inaugurated as a Justice of the Peace by the Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa.
He was sworn in on Friday in Akure alongside 130 newly appointed Justices of the Peace, a list that includes prominent traditional rulers and community leaders such as Otunba Seinde Arogbofa, the Chief Imam of Akure Kingdom, the Olowo of Owo, the Osemawe of Ondo, and the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland.
The ceremony drew a large gathering of eminent personalities from across the state.
In a congratulatory message, the Akoko North East branch of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs lauded Bello on his elevation.
The council described the appointment as a well-deserved recognition of his contributions to peaceful coexistence and community development.
Alhaji Bello, who also serves as Chairman of the council in the area, was praised for his longstanding commitment to mediation, conflict resolution, and humanitarian service.
His selection, the group noted, reflects the state government’s acknowledgement of individuals who have consistently demonstrated leadership and integrity in their communities.
Veracity News reports that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa described the inauguration as a significant step toward strengthening justice delivery at the grassroots, aligning with the Order, Security and Rule of Law pillar of his administration’s OUR EASE agenda.
As part of ongoing efforts to bolster the state’s security architecture, the governor announced that he had approved the recruitment and training of 500 additional personnel for the Amotekun Corps.
Aiyedatiwa charged the newly appointed Justices of the Peace to contribute meaningfully to the promotion of peace, justice and community security, noting that their role would be pivotal in resolving local disputes and fostering stability.
He reminded them that the office of a Justice of the Peace carries a “sacred responsibility,” one that demands integrity, wisdom, decorum and fairness.
The governor commended their appointment and assured them of his administration’s support as they work to maintain social order and enhance harmony across their communities.
