Former Students’ Union Government President of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Olawale Ijanusi, popularly known as Optimum, has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, citing deep dissatisfaction with the party’s direction.
Ijanusi, who was also once a youth adviser to former deputy governor Agboola Ajayi, made his decision known in a letter addressed to the PDP chairman in Ikun Ward 9, Akoko South-West Local Government.
The former party chieftain said his decision came after an extended period of personal reflection, concluding that he could no longer identify with the path the PDP was taking.
According to him, “When a road is no longer leading to one’s destination, wisdom demands a change of path.”
He noted that he had waited patiently for a positive turn within the party but ultimately realised he could not remain indefinitely in an environment that no longer aligned with his aspirations.
Ijanusi wrote that “a bird cannot continue to dance on a rope forever without losing balance.”
He expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve under the PDP, insisting that the friendships and experiences gained over the years would remain meaningful.
He added that there comes a decisive moment in every political journey when separation becomes inevitable, saying “a traveler must look at the sun and know when it is evening.”
Ijanusi urged party leaders in his ward to accept his resignation in good faith and extended gratitude to elders, leaders, and members who had worked with him throughout his time in the PDP.
