The eldest son of late Otunba Bamidele Akingboye, a businessman and 2023 governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ondo State, has alleged foul play in the circumstances leading to his father’s death.
Samuel Akingboye said his suspicion grew after noticing discrepancies in accounts from family members about the incident.
“Upon arriving at the hospital, the condition of his body contradicted the account given about his death. The physical injuries observed on his body differed sharply from the explanation presented to me,” he stated.
He claimed that shortly after his father’s death, substantial sums of money were withdrawn from the deceased’s company account and transferred to accounts allegedly linked to his stepmother and stepbrother. He also alleged that valuables and key documents were taken from the family home.
According to him, the investigation, initially assigned to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, was later transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit in Surulere — a move he described as “deeply troubling and illogical.”
Akingboye said despite multiple visits and follow-ups, he had yet to receive the autopsy report or other findings related to the case.
He further alleged that his stepmother and her children were making moves to access his father’s assets, including vehicles and properties, while the probe remained incomplete.
Akingboye appealed to the Inspector-General of Police and Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to ensure a transparent investigation and safeguard his late father’s legacy.
