Youths back Girei as APC’s 2027 governorship flagbearer

A coalition of youths under the aegis of the Adamawa State Youths Forum has thrown its weight behind Dr. Salihu Bakari Girei as the preferred aspirant for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 governorship race.

Speaking at a press briefing in Yola on Monday, Chairman of the forum, Hon. Umar B. Yakubu, said the youths had assessed all potential contenders and found Dr. Girei to be the most competent, experienced, and widely accepted figure capable of reclaiming the state from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Yakubu described Dr. Girei as a “tested and trusted leader” whose background in public service, community development, and party loyalty places him far ahead of other aspirants.

According to the forum, Dr. Girei’s strengths include proven administrative capacity, an extensive grassroots network across all 21 local government areas, and broad-based support that cuts across ethnic, religious, and political divides.

They also highlighted his longstanding investment in youth empowerment, including education, skills development, employment initiatives, and infrastructural interventions in various communities.

The group warned that the APC must avoid internal discord and the emergence of what it called a “weak candidate,” insisting that such missteps would hand the PDP an easy victory.

It argued that the policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration have reshaped the political landscape, weakening the opposition and prompting a steady influx of defectors into the APC in Adamawa.

The youths commended President Tinubu, National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, APC North-East Vice Chairman Comrade Mustapha Salihu, the state party chairman, and other stakeholders for sustaining unity within the party.

They urged them to uphold merit, experience, and electoral viability in deciding the party’s next governorship standard-bearer.

The forum concluded that Dr. Salihu Bakari Girei represents the APC’s strongest path to victory in 2027 and called on leaders, elders, women, youths, and supporters to rally behind his candidature for the advancement of both the party and the state.
