The Federal Government has secured the release of 100 pupils kidnapped from St. Mary’s Private Catholic Primary and Secondary School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State.
The victims were among those seized when bandits invaded the remote community on November 21, 2025, launching a pre-dawn assault on the school.
According to reports, the attackers, who arrived on motorbikes around 2 a.m., raided the dormitories for about three hours, abducting 315 people—303 students and 12 teachers.
Security operatives, supported by local hunters, later began extensive search operations across surrounding forests to locate the captives.
Authorities said 50 pupils managed to escape within the first 24 hours and were reunited with their families.
The latest breakthrough brings the number of rescued pupils to 150, though 265 individuals—comprising 253 children and all 12 teachers—were initially believed to have remained in captivity.
