The Imo State Police Command has intensified its search for one Mr. Stanley Morocco Oparaugo, owner of a mortuary in Umuhu Autonomous Community, Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area, after he was declared wanted over suspected organ-harvesting activities allegedly carried out in the facility.
Oparaugo, who also operates a hotel within the same community, reportedly fled after police officers uncovered disturbing scenes during a raid on the morgue.
According to the police, dismembered and poorly preserved corpses were found in conditions that raised strong suspicion of illegal organ removal.
The Command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye, said in a statement that the operation was personally supervised by the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, who acted on credible intelligence indicating criminal activities at the mortuary.
He noted that the raid was supported by members of a vigilante group as part of ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes around the Owerri–Aba Expressway.
The statement revealed that the gruesome discoveries prompted authorities to seal both the mortuary and the hotel linked to the suspect, while a search conducted at his residence reportedly led to the recovery of key exhibits.
“Following these discoveries, both the hotel and mortuary were sealed on the directive of the state government. The suspect’s residence was also searched, and crucial exhibits were recovered,” the statement explained.
Okoye added that forensic findings already documented by experts at the State Specialist Hospital would support the ongoing investigation.
He assured the public that no accomplice involved in the illicit activities would be spared.
“Stanley Morocco Oparaugo has been declared wanted. Anyone with useful information should contact the nearest police station or call 0803 477 3600. Maximum security has also been deployed along the Owerri–Aba Expressway. The Command assures travelers during the holidays of its commitment to their safety,” the statement added.
