A Nigerian Air Force (NAF) aircraft reportedly went down near Karabonde in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State on Saturday evening.
Lapai TV, a Niger State-based digital television network, shared the development on its Facebook page:
“Two Nigerian Air Force Pilots Reportedly Survive Alpha Jet Crash Close to Karabonde, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State,” the brief post stated, alongside a 57-second video.
An eyewitness told PUNCH Online that both pilots managed to eject safely before the plane hit the ground, sharing a 48-second voice note and a 59-second video as evidence.
He said, “I think the aircraft took off from the Kainji air force base. We learnt that the air force is mobilising to the crash site.”
Our correspondent also spoke with a local resident, Lukman Sulaiman, who confirmed the crash.
“The incident happened around 4.10pm. It landed very close town but God so good, the pilots ejected safely,” he said. “Yes, we heard a noisy landing crash. We were scared. But we eventually started trooping back to the scene.”
Videos obtained by PUNCH Online show the aircraft on fire at the crash site. As of the time of filing this report, the military has not released an official statement.
