BREAKING: Tragedy as explosion rocks mosque in Maiduguri

An explosion believed to have been caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) rocked a mosque at Gamboru Main Market in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, on Wednesday evening. The blast occurred around 6:00 pm while worshippers were performing their Maghrib prayers.

As reported by Vanguard, sources said the mosque is usually crowded, hosting traders and other market patrons who visit Gamboru Market daily.

Vanguard reported that the incident is the latest attack on a worship centre in Maiduguri, a city that has not experienced a bomb blast within its limits for some time.

Attempts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Kenneth Daso, for comment were unsuccessful as his phone lines could not be reached at press time.

Details later.
