Double tragedy as father's property leads to death of mother, son

A dispute over inheritance in Suleja Local Government Area of Niger State ended in a double tragedy, leaving a mother and her son dead.

Adamu Abdullahi, 25, allegedly stabbed his mother, 45-year-old Hawa Sanusi, to death during an argument over property left by his late father.

Local sources said Adamu had returned after several years to claim his share of the inheritance, which his mother had kept, fearing it might be misused.

The argument reportedly escalated, and the son attacked his mother. Her screams drew neighbours, who discovered her lying in a pool of blood.

An angry mob reportedly intercepted Adamu as he tried to flee and beat him to death.

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said the report was received on December 13, 2025, at about 1:30 am, detailing the mother’s stabbing by her son.

He added that police operatives from A Division, Suleja, moved to the scene, recovered the knife, evacuated the corpses, and are working to arrest members of the mob.
