The Ondo State Police Command has successfully rescued a man who was abducted during an armed robbery incident in Owo, as security agencies intensified efforts to track down the suspects.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Jimoh Abayomi Kazeem, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal.
The statement reads, “The Ondo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public of the successful rescue of an abduction victim following a reported case of armed robbery and abduction, in line with its sustained efforts to combat criminal activities across the State.
“In this regard, a distress call was received at the A’ Division Police Headquarters, Owo, from one Major Tajudeen, who reported that Ali Kolade (male) of Ijelu Quarters, Owo, had been abducted from his residence by armed men, who also made away with his unregistered black Toyota Corolla car.
“Acting promptly on the information, the Divisional Police Officer mobilized a response team in collaboration with the military and embarked on an intensive pursuit of the suspects. Although the suspects managed to escape, the victim was successfully rescued. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention and subsequently debriefed by investigators.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects, numbering six (6), robbed the victim of the following items:
3. iPad
4. Black Toyota Corolla car
5. Sum of ₦1.47 million, transferred from the victim’s bank account
Meanwhile, investigation is ongoing, with concerted efforts being intensified to identify, track, and apprehend the perpetrators of this heinous crime.
“Against this backdrop, the Ondo State Police Command reiterates unequivocally that Ondo State has never been and will never be a safe haven for criminal elements. As consistently demonstrated, criminals operating within the State will always be identified, tracked, and brought to justice.
“The Command commends residents for their timely report and cooperation and once again urges members of the public to continue providing credible and actionable information that will aid crime prevention and detection.
“Commending the operatives for their prompt and decisive response, the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Adebowale Lawal, psc(+), mnips, described their actions as professional and commendable, noting that it reflects the Command’s enhanced operational capacity for timely response to security incident.
“The Commissioner further applauded the robust inter-agency collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Military, noting that their coordinated efforts have significantly strengthened crime prevention and enhanced public safety across Ondo State.
“The Command also appreciates the strategic leadership and continuous support of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, whose policing reforms and technological initiatives continue to enhance operational effectiveness in Ondo State.
“The Ondo State Police Command urges members of the public to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies, and promptly report any suspicious activities, as collective effort remains vital to the attainment of a safer society.
