A man was reportedly killed inside a mosque in the Hotoro Maraba area of Tarauni Local Government, Kano State, in a shocking early morning attack on Monday.
The victim, identified as Malam Kasim, was allegedly calling the Adhan for the Asuba (dawn) prayer when an unknown assailant slit his throat, according to eyewitnesses.
Residents said the attack occurred within the mosque premises, leaving the community in fear and panic.
Following the incident, angry youths reportedly retaliated, killing the suspected assailant on the spot.
Maryam Kasim, one of the victim’s daughters, confirmed that her father’s body was found inside the mosque with signs of a struggle. “We discovered our father’s body in the mosque. There were clear signs of a struggle, and the entire community was thrown into fear,” she said.
Security operatives were quickly deployed to the area to prevent further unrest and restore calm as residents gathered in anger and disbelief over the killing.
Efforts to obtain an official comment from the Kano State Police Command were unsuccessful at the time of filing, but authorities are expected to release a statement as investigations continue.
