The Federal Road Safety Corps has rolled out 1,500 personnel to regulate traffic and enhance safety on roads across Ondo State during the yuletide period.
The Ondo State Sector Commander of the corps, Dr. Samuel Ibitoye, disclosed the deployment on Monday in Akure during an interaction with the News Agency of Nigeria.
He said the exercise involved 700 regular marshals and 800 special marshals, adding that patrol vehicles, ambulances and towing trucks had been stationed at key points.
According to him, the personnel were tasked with ensuring steady traffic movement, preventing congestion and clearing obstructions on major routes.
Ibitoye noted that rescue teams would be on standby 24 hours daily, while mobile courts would also be activated to try traffic offenders.
“Traditionally, every year the corps mobilizes personnel and resources to ensure that there is smooth traffic flow during yuletide period and we have prepared and deployed our men.
“We are also collaborating with the other agencies such as police to ensure traffic flow at the strategic places across the state especially the axis of Akure, Owo/ Ilesha and Ore among others
“We will be there to ensure travellers get to where they are going without any hiccups so that we can all celebrate the festival periods together in peace and enter the new year without any crash recorded.”
He advised motorists to be patient on the roads, shun speeding and adopt defensive driving to avoid crashes during and after the festive season.
