The 2007 set of Oroke High School, Akungba, in Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State, has donated writing materials, including exercise books and pens, to outstanding and indigent students of the citadel of learning.
The beneficiaries, selected from JSS1 to SS3, received the items during a ceremony held on the school premises, with parents and teachers in attendance.
Speaking at the event, the President of the 2007 Set Alumni Association, Awomatan Ayodele Samuel, who was represented by the Secretary, Omoniyi Oluwatosin, said the gesture was a deliberate effort to build a bridge between the past, present and future of the school.
He said the set was using the donation to draw the attention of other alumni and stakeholders to the challenges facing the school, noting that many of its facilities were deteriorating and required collective intervention from alumni, parents, the PTA, community leaders and the government.
Omoniyi assured that the donation was only the beginning, promising that the 2007 set would do more to support the school, while also advising students to avoid vandalism, respect school property and maintain discipline as key ingredients for academic excellence.
In her welcome address, the Principal of the school, Mrs Jimoh Abass, applauded the alumni for remembering their alma mater, describing the intervention as timely and motivating for the students.
The Treasurer of the association, Aliu Rafiu, said the set had concluded plans to sponsor 10 students for the 2026 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board examination, adding that the initiative was part of a broader plan to encourage academic excellence and promote the development of the school.
Also speaking, the Public Relations Officer of the association, Giwa Sunday, urged students to protect school property, noting that responsible behaviour would encourage more individuals and organisations to support the school.
A legal practitioner representing Akungba youths, Barrister Femi Adejumo, commended the 2007 set for setting a worthy example, saying the gesture showed commitment to community development and youth empowerment.
While appreciating the donors, the Senior Boy of the school, Olajide Marvelous, encouraged fellow students to take their studies seriously so they too could give back to the school in the future.
Giving the vote of thanks, a former student and ex-bursar of the school, Mr Zaccheus Arogundade, praised the alumni for their unity and generosity, describing the donation as a reflection of their enduring bond with the institution.
Other members of the 2007 set present at the event included: Olubode Bukola, Akinniyi Monday and Oladipupo Ojo.
