Security has been reinforced across parts of Ekiti State following the arrest of 16 suspected bandits by operatives of the Amotekun Corps in Oye Local Government Area.
The suspects, believed to have migrated from neighbouring Kwara State, were apprehended on Wednesday by officers attached to the Oye Local Government Command.
The arrest was disclosed in a statement issued by the Amotekun Director of Information, Mr Adeleye, and made available to journalists in Ado-Ekiti.
According to the statement, tension gripped Isan-Ekiti after residents sighted a large group of men with cattle around the Gede Farm settlement.
The unusual movement reportedly prompted the deployment of reinforcements from nearby Amotekun outposts, leading to the arrest of the suspects.
During preliminary questioning, the suspects allegedly said they left Kwara State due to intensified security operations against banditry in the area.
They were also said to have admitted involvement in cattle rustling and other criminal activities within Kwara communities.
Items recovered from the suspects included cash, seven mobile phones, assorted charms, three Vigilante Group of Nigeria identity cards and several herds of cattle.
The suspects have been transferred to the Rapid Response Squad of the Ekiti State Police Command for further investigation and prosecution.
