As political activities gradually build up ahead of the 2027 general elections, Barrister Oweilaemi Pereotubo is gaining attention across Burutu South Constituency, with observers describing him as a rising figure capable of reshaping the area’s political landscape.
A political observer and grassroots advocate from Ayakoromo Town, Ebikabowei Kedikumo, said in a commentary that Oweilaemi’s growing influence stems from years of community engagement and social intervention rather than recent political ambition.
Kedikumo argued that the major challenge confronting Burutu South over the years has not been the absence of political office holders, but a lack of leadership driven by empathy, accountability and clear vision. He said Oweilaemi fits into a new category of leaders whose impact predates any quest for elective office.
Central to Oweilaemi’s profile is the work of the Barrister Oweilaemi Foundation, which has supported indigent children from riverine and hard-to-reach communities through educational sponsorships. According to Kedikumo, the foundation has covered school fees, accommodation, learning materials and feeding for several beneficiaries, helping many families keep their children in school.
Beyond education, he noted that Oweilaemi’s humanitarian efforts have reached widows, the elderly and vulnerable households through the provision of food items, clothing and medical assistance, particularly in areas where government presence is minimal.
Kedikumo also highlighted Oweilaemi’s background as a legal practitioner, describing it as an advantage for effective representation. He said the combination of professional experience and strong grassroots connection positions him to understand both policy issues and the everyday challenges facing constituents.
According to him, Oweilaemi is known among supporters for a leadership style focused on results, consistency and integrity rather than rhetoric. He added that this approach resonates with residents seeking more responsive and people-centred representation.
The observer further stated that, if elected, Oweilaemi is expected to promote participatory governance through regular engagement with constituents, while advocating for infrastructure development, including roads, schools, healthcare facilities, potable water and rural electrification.
Kedikumo added that economic empowerment initiatives targeting youths, women, farmers and fisherfolk are also central to Oweilaemi’s vision, with an emphasis on skills acquisition and support for small businesses.
As political discussions intensify in Burutu South, Kedikumo said many residents are weighing the option of maintaining old political patterns or embracing what he described as a leadership anchored on competence, compassion and courage, noting that Oweilaemi’s consistent community involvement has strengthened his appeal across the constituency.
