BREAKING: Tension as bandits kill two, kidnap over 50 women

Suspected bandits have attacked Chibauna community in Funtua Local Government Area of Katsina State, killing two residents and abducting scores of women, barely weeks after a reported peace deal in the area.

As reported by Vanguard, the assailants were said to have stormed the village late on Sunday, firing shots indiscriminately and forcing residents to flee in different directions.

During the raid, the attackers also made away with a large number of livestock, including cattle and sheep, leaving the agrarian community in distress.

Confirming the incident, a local councillor, Malam Abdurasheed, told BBC Hausa Service on Monday that the gunmen unleashed terror on the village, creating widespread panic.

He disclosed that two persons lost their lives, while several others sustained gunshot wounds and are currently receiving medical attention.

Abdurasheed added that although more than 50 women were initially taken away by the attackers, some of them later escaped and returned to the community.

He called on the military and other security agencies to urgently step up operations in the area to rescue those still in captivity and prevent further attacks, as residents expressed fears over the deteriorating security situation in the state.
