Proceedings at the Oyo State High Court sitting at Ring Road, Ibadan, were on Tuesday abruptly suspended after a former chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Alhaji Mukaila Lamidi, also known as Auxiliary, collapsed during a court session.
The incident occurred while the court was set to hear a criminal case filed against Lamidi, who was seated in the dock awaiting the call of his matter.
Eyewitnesses said the defendant suddenly slumped in the courtroom, triggering panic and drawing swift attention from court officials and security personnel.
Following the development, the trial judge, Justice Bayo Taiwo, could not continue with the day’s proceedings, leading to an immediate halt to the session.
Lamidi was subsequently evacuated from the court premises and taken to the clinic at the Agodi Correctional Centre for urgent medical care.
The former NURTW leader is facing a 17-count charge bordering on armed robbery, murder, attempted murder and illegal possession of firearms.
According to the charge sheet, the alleged offences involved the possession and use of an AK-47 rifle and two submachine guns, alongside their magazines, in incidents said to have occurred on May 29, 2023, near the Ikolaba residence of Governor Seyi Makinde in Ibadan.
As of the time of filing this report, there was no official update on his health condition or the next step the court would take regarding the case.
