The family of late gospel singer, Olubunmi Akinnaanu Adeoye, popularly known as Omije Ojumi, has announced the cancellation of burial arrangements earlier scheduled in her honour.
The decision was disclosed on Saturday via a video statement shared on Instagram by two close colleagues of the deceased, Lanre Alewilese and Alayo Melody.
In the statement, the family said all plans put together by the burial planning committee had been called off due to unresolved issues within the family, despite advanced preparations.
The family apologised to colleagues, friends and well-wishers for the sudden development, assuring that further information would be communicated in due course.
The announcement came hours after Alewilese and Alayo Melody had circulated a flier detailing the burial programme, which included a service of songs, candlelight procession, tribute and artistes’ night scheduled for Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at the LTV 8 compound, Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos. A private burial service was fixed for the following day.
Omije Ojumi’s death was announced on January 12, 2026, by Alayo Melody through an Instagram post on behalf of the family, throwing Nigerians and the Christian community into mourning.
The post, which included a video from her last birthday celebration in hospital, paid tribute to the singer and expressed condolences to her husband, children and family.
The family later confirmed that the 45-year-old gospel musician died at a Lagos hospital after a prolonged illness. Her passing followed months of public prayers and support after videos showing her seeking healing during church services went viral.
Born on November 19, 1979, the late singer rose to fame in the early 2000s with her debut song Omije Ojumi. She was a former banker who later devoted herself fully to gospel music and released several albums, including Dabira, Alatileyinmi, Ma-Sunkun-Mo, Tujuka and Testimony.
Omije Ojumi was known for her deeply spiritual songs centred on hope, worship and redemption, earning her a loyal following within Nigeria’s gospel music community.
