No fewer than three students of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, have been confirmed dead following a fatal road accident that occurred on Saturday in Ilesha, Osun State.
The accident, it was gathered, involved an 18-seater commercial bus and a truck along the Ilesha axis.
Confirming the incident in a telephone interview, the President of the Students’ Union, Comrade Salami Ologbon, said union officials were already in Osun State to monitor the situation.
According to him, the remains of the deceased students had been deposited at a morgue, while he extended condolences to the affected families and the university community.
In a separate statement, the Public Relations Officer of the Students’ Union Government, Comrade Ajidagba Akinbobola, said the commercial bus was conveying passengers from Ojota, Lagos State, when the crash occurred early in the day.
The union stated that while three AAUA students lost their lives, other passengers sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving medical attention at a hospital in Ilesha.
It added that the Students’ Union had reached out to the families of the victims to offer support, assuring that further updates would be made available as more details emerge.
