The Deputy Comptroller of Immigration, Mrs Modupe Bosede Maku, on Wednesday bowed out of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) after attaining the mandatory retirement age, with a thanksgiving service held in her honour in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
Mrs Maku, a native of Akungba-Akoko in Akoko South-West Local Government Area of the state, was celebrated by colleagues, family members and well-wishers who described her as a gentle, calm and easy-going officer whose conduct endeared her to many during her years in service.
The thanksgiving service, which held on January 14, 2026, was organised by the Nigeria Immigration Service Fellowship (NISF) at the Ondo State Command and attracted top officials of the service, traditional rulers, relatives and friends.
The Controller of Immigration in charge of Ondo State, CIS Ogbemudia, led senior officers of the command to the event, while royal fathers and other invited guests also graced the occasion.
The programme, which commenced at about 10am, was anchored by an Assistant Comptroller of Immigration, A.O. Aderibigbe.
In a sermon titled “Fear God in All You Do,” the officiating minister admonished public servants to remain upright, accountable and God-fearing in the discharge of their official responsibilities.
Several speakers took turns to testify to the dedication and exemplary service record of the retiree, noting her humility and peaceful disposition.
Her husband, Elder Adewale R. Maku, also expressed gratitude to God for granting his wife a successful and fulfilling career in the service.
Highlights of the event included the presentation of gifts and awards to Mrs Maku by the NISF, with the presentation led by a Deputy Comptroller of Immigration, DCI Adefaka.
In her vote of thanks, Mrs Maku returned all glory to God for His faithfulness, citing John Chapter Five, and described her journey in the service as one sustained by divine grace.
She thanked the royal fathers, her husband, family members, friends and colleagues for their prayers, support and encouragement, urging younger officers to serve with diligence, humility and the fear of God.
