A journalist and public affairs analyst, Wilson Macaulay, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently translate his Renewed Hope agenda into concrete actions that will ease the hardship faced by Nigerians.
Macaulay made the appeal in an open letter addressed to the President, in which he described Nigeria as a “desert of lost hope” weighed down by unemployment, hunger, insecurity and declining public trust in leadership.
He argued that beyond economic and political challenges, the country was grappling with a deeper moral and social crisis, warning that despair was steadily replacing optimism among citizens.
The development advocate urged Tinubu to provide what he termed “oases of leadership, compassion, justice and purpose,” capable of restoring confidence and giving direction to Nigerians struggling under current realities.
While acknowledging past and present reform efforts, Macaulay said many national programmes had failed due to weak implementation, stressing that the success of the Renewed Hope initiative would depend on its visible impact on everyday life.
He advised the President to mobilise faith-based institutions, civil society groups, traditional rulers and government agencies to work collectively towards rebuilding trust and national cohesion.
Macaulay also called for policies anchored on integrity, empathy and accountability, noting that hope would only return when governance prioritises service over personal ambition.
The letter urged the Tinubu administration to focus on job creation, improved security, economic stability and social justice, insisting that the difference between slogans and lasting legacy lay in execution.
Macaulay expressed confidence that with decisive, people-centred governance, the Renewed Hope agenda could lay the foundation for national renewal and restore faith in the Nigerian project.
