The Ondo State Police Command has uncovered an alleged ₦33m visa scam involving a promise to secure travel documents to the United Kingdom, leading to the arrest of two suspects and a search for a third.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the case came to light after a formal complaint was submitted on behalf of an Idanre resident, Adeyeye Aderemi.
Police sources said the complainant accused the suspects of collecting the money in January 2025 under the pretext of arranging a UK visa for his son.
Following the report, detectives tracked and arrested Olowookere Bunmi and Akinlogbe Olakitan in Akure during a targeted operation.
Preliminary findings indicated that Bunmi allegedly received ₦28m from the victim and transferred the funds to Olakitan, who claimed the money was later sent to Adegboyega Samuel, now on the run.
The Commissioner of Police has ordered a coordinated manhunt for the fleeing suspect, with investigators deploying digital tools to aid his arrest.
The command said the suspects in custody would be arraigned after investigations, warning residents to be vigilant and properly verify individuals offering overseas travel services.
