A 37-year-old Spanish streamer, Sergio Jimenez Ramos, has died after allegedly livestreaming a dangerous online challenge involving heavy consumption of cocaine and alcohol to a private audience.
Ramos was found dead in his bedroom in Vilanova i la Geltrú, near Barcelona, in the early hours of Wednesday, December 31, after emergency services were alerted by family members.
According to investigators, the deceased was discovered kneeling beside his bed with his head resting on the mattress and one hand clutching his mobile phone.
Items recovered at the scene included an almost empty bottle of whisky, energy drink cans and cocaine laid out on a tray.
Police suspect Ramos died while participating in a paid private video session in which subscribers reportedly watched him ingest a bottle of whisky and several grams of cocaine within a short period.
Viewers were allegedly heard encouraging him during the broadcast, asking: “Are you crashing yet, Sergio? You still haven’t finished the bottle of whisky?”
Emergency responders who arrived at the residence pronounced him dead at the scene, as detectives began investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Ramos was previously banned from several public streaming platforms for violating policies on drug use but later joined private broadcasts organised by fellow streamer Simón Pérez Golarons, who is known for extreme online stunts.
Reacting to the incident, Pérez Golarons denied any responsibility, saying: “I told him several times that two grams was an overdose. I told him not to stream, to leave Telegram, that it was rubbish and that he was going to end badly. I’m not to blame.”
The deceased, who reportedly struggled with substance abuse and was receiving psychiatric care, has left behind a grieving family now demanding justice, while authorities probe financial transactions linked to the stream.
Some of his friends accused those involved of exploitation, saying: “They are scum who take advantage of others. They paid for the cocaine and whisky to make him kill himself.”
